Curb Crawling
Lyrics
Morning dew
Still dripping
Into her
Puddle of fear
The light fights the trees
They beg her
To run and
Lock up her secret
Agatha, Agatha
Plays under pressure
Lives on solicitors and
People curb crawling
Afternoon tea
With her darling
By day she’s
Relaxing with papers
Streets under sun
That is blinding
And Agatha’s
Dreading her business
Agatha, Agatha
Plays with no pleasure
Admits every visitor
She plays curb crawling
Agatha, Agatha
Plays with no pleasure
Admits every visitor
She plays curb crawling
Dark moonless sky
A letterbox
Bills slip into
A slot with money
Silent she empties
Her wallet
Again counting
How much she’s left with
Agatha, Agatha
Lives a cruel danger
Taking the pennies from the

Notes
The best
new song not to appear on Sunny Ash, "Curb Crawling"
captures the band in transition. Their musical textures are much
more sophisticated than before, but their performance still sounds
less-than-confident. At the time, Steven still sang with a slightly
British accent. Although written well before Sound Check was
finished, "Curb Crawling" was recorded during the same
sessions that produced "Apart" (later to appear on Sunny
Ash) and "Sticks and Stones." Listen for the variable-speed
orchestral wash during the last two choruses, a rare sonic experiment
from that era. |
